How the f*** do physicists get paid more than actuaries? If that is the average academic salary in the States it almost makes you want to live there (but not quite).

I think its because they probably only count people in permanent tenured jobs. So its probably only counting Assistant Professors and higher. Whereas for actuaries its counting everyone right from the bottom, its skewing the mean.
